How to Load Music on to an MP3 Player

MP3 players are useless without music. To access the device, first learn how to load music onto it. Although every MP3 player is different, and you should follow the instructions supplied with the device whenever possible, in most cases the following steps are standard for loading music onto your MP3 player.

1. First: Connect your MP3 player to your computer

   Most MP3 players connect to a computer through a USB cable. Often, the connector cable has a standard rectangular USB connector on one end and a mini-USB or proprietary connector on the other. Plug the USB connector into your computer and the other end into your MP3 player.

2. Second: Get your music ready to import

   Some MP3 players require the use of special software to manage a music library, and copy music onto the player. If you use iTunes or similar software to manage and import your music, put the music files you want to copy in your library. Other MP3 players appear as disk drives on your desktop. These players require no special setup to copy music.

3. Third: Import the music to the MP3 player

   If you use a music library manager, instruct it to copy your music files to the player. Usually, this function is accomplished by dragging the songs to the MP3 player icon. If your MP3 player appears as a disk drive, and you do not use a music library manager, locate the music files on your hard drive. Drag these files to the MP3 player icon on your desktop. If your MP3 player came with specific instructions on where to place these files, follow the instructions.

4. Fourth: Eject the MP3 player, and disconnect the cable

   Instruct your computer to eject the MP3 player. If the player icon appears on the desktop, right-click it, and select Eject. Otherwise, instruct the library management software to eject the player. Then safely disconnect the cable, and enjoy your new music.
